The ‘Giuseppe Garibaldi’ Istituto d’Istruzione
Superiore (IIS) is the only technical school in the province of Macerata
with an agricultural vocation, it is situated in a rural area of the city. It
is attended by students coming from a large territory including the province of
Macerata, Ancona and Fermo.
This school also includes a large farm of 70 hectares and a college that greatly supports the students coming from distant towns and villages.
For many years, after a detailed analysis of the training needs of students, and considering the professional needs of the territory, this school has caught every opportunity to improve the staff and students’ knowledge of new technologies and English language, through certification learning paths, upgrading courses, native speakers and CLIL experiences. By the way this year some of its teachers have decided to attend the courses proposed by the Italian Ministry of Education for CLIL training, especially because they have often cared about professional activities and projects in English, both in Italy and abroad. In addition, IIS has always demonstrated its widely-European vocation and its tendency towards internationalization, by participating in several Comenius, Leonardo projects, international partnerships and twinning arrangements, even for humanitarian purposes. In 2008 this school was awarded the European Label Award for Languages, in the Education sector, with the project "My Grandparents Told Me", by the Ministry of Education. In 2010 one of its classes won the prize "Spring Day for Europe 2010", as the winner of the section "Being for 1 Teacher Day" with the project "In situ: from Territory Resources to the Sensory Experiences of Macerata cookery."
Finally, it has always consistently paid a great attention towards the inclusion, integration and support of pupils with special educational needs, through the design and implementation of educational projects in collaboration with other schools and institutions.
